Ateneo finally broke free from St.Joseph School's basketball dominance as the Golden Knights outlasted their opponents 55-51 and secured their second win in the elimination round of Samahang Baskebol ng Pilipinas held at the Naga City Civic Center on September 4, 2010.

Ateneo banked on their running game, defensive savvy and their new-found passion for the game to pull away from their opponents in the second quarter and ended the half with an 8-point lead. However, cagers from St. Joseph, refused to go away, staged a late rally and erased the 6-point lead of Ateneo midway through the fourth quarter. But the Ateneans proved their mettle during crunch time as they played aggressive ball and blanked their opponents in the final minute of the game.

Leading the charge for the Ateneans are mainstays, Felix Villanueva, who registered 16 markers and Paul Lacanlale who came up the bench with 12 points. Equally impressive on the defensive end are big men Paul Llorin and Hans Olitoquit who joined hands to grab 16 boards and provided the team with the toughness and stability down low.

The victory did not break the five year basketball dominance of their old nemesis but it gave Ateneo the much needed boost and confidence as they resume their game against Partido State University on September 12, 2010 at the Naga City Civic Center.
