The Ateneo de Naga High School and its colleges sponsored a novenario a mass in honor of the Lady of Peñafrancia last September 16, 2011, Friday, at the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral. The mass’ highlight was the singing of the Gregorian chant version of the "Salve Regina".
The mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jose “Jun” Embile S.J., together with Rev. Fr. Ruben Reyes S.J., the High School Chaplain. Confessions were also conducted by some Jesuit priests as the mass was celebrated.
Before this event, the Ateneo High School underwent several practice sessions for the singing of Salve Regina which was conducted by Mr. Vernon de los Trino and with the collaboration of the teachers. According to some students and teachers present on that event, the mass was indeed good, and the singing of the Salve Regina was truly breathtaking and religiously hair-raising. This singing of the Salve Regina to Ina is tradition which dates to the founding of the Ateneo in 1940.
After the mass was the "Voyadores Festival" presentation of the College students at the cathedral patio. To the drum beats invoking the Hispanic-period natives and "cimarrones", the college students showed off dance steps common in the "Voyadores" street parade competition held three days before the Lady's feast day.
All these events are in relation to the 2011 Peñafrancia theme: “Monstra Te Esse Fillium” which is to “Show that you are a child of Ina”.
