JBEC Naga 2011At the height of storm signal #2 because of typhoon Pedring’s intrusion in the Bicol Region, the Jesuit Basic Education Commission (JBEC) Principals' first conference was held on September 25-27, 2011 and was hosted by the Ateneo de Naga University High School.

This annual conference is attended by Jesuit and lay school administrators from the Jesuit educational institutions throughout the Philippines, namely: Ateneo de Cebu, Ateneo da Davao, Ateneo de Manila University, Ateneo de Iloilo, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Loyola College of Culion, Xavier School and Ateneo de Cagayan. This year’s topics included a Talk about the Environment, Discussion on K+12 and Ateneo de Naga’s sharing of its “best, unique” practices. And even with the typhoon’s disturbance the conference is a success.

Administrators talked about how schools can have a “Greener Campus” of their own, as a part of the Jesuit mission which is that to help each other in becoming schools for others. They also opened the topic of K+12 to whether they agree on this or not and to what issues or problems will be faced if the said program or curriculum is followed.

Ateneo de Naga proudly presented its “best, unique” practices, specifically PISTAYM activities and the school’s active participation in the activities of the local Church through parish services for all the students and through joining the traslacion and offering a song to Our Lady of Penafrancia during the recently concluded Penafrancia Fiesta. And it surprised the guests to know these things for they don’t have these in their respective schools. So, according to Mr. Bermudo, we should not be surprised if in a year or two other Jesuit Schools will be having Pistaym-like event in their schools.
