Another successful year is achieved by the Ateneo de Naga University Science Department, as their sponsored Annual Science Week on the theme “Sciences in Synergy for Environmental Stability,” closed last Monday, October 10, 2011.
The said activity was formally opened last Sunday, October 2, together with the start of the Marian Month. It aimed at creating an environmental awareness among the minds of young Ateneans.
The week long celebration of environmental awareness was festooned with different activities in which every student and LG from all year levels participated well. The freshmen had their Recycled Lantern contest wherein LG 1211 was chosen by the jurors to have made the most creative piece of art out of recycled materials.
The sophomore LGs battled against each other to create the most attractive photo exhibit in the Biology Photo Exhibition Contest. At the end, LG 2315 brought home the first place and LG 2317 was the campus’ favorite.
The juniors didn’t let themselves be left by the first two year levels as they wowed them with their amazing magic tricks, or should I say simple chemistry tricks. LG 3427 ruled over their other batch mates in this event. Seniors also wouldn’t want to get overruled by the underclassmen when it comes to participation in the Science Week. The senior men entertained the campus by their Physics tricks and exhibitions.
The fund raising activity on the other side moved Ateneans to think Clean and Green. With each LG bringing recyclable materials in the Physics Lab, LGs 1414, 2317, 3329 and 4424 brought the most among their batches.
Another awaited event in the Science Week was the Science Camp. Though it was welcomed by the October rains, it did not stop it to become a fun experience. Students pitched their tents inside the Ateneo Covered Courts because of the wet grounds outside. The participants learned different fun lessons about each of the following subjects, Gen Sci, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Hands-on activities also made it more enjoyable for the participants.
Over all, the Science Week was a success. With each student learning to be aware of what is happening in the environment because of the different contests, the activity, for another year, has helped in molding men and women out of young high school studs.
