The Computer Education Course Program

 

ComputerThe Computer Education in Ateneo de Naga University High School is going through periods of radical change – in terms of content as well as delivery systems. The direction that it is taking is ensuring that our students are equipped with the skills  and know how in the technology that they can use in entrepreneurship.  We believe that the focus of technology education is not to merely prepare the student for College but for the real world as well.  Thus, we equip our students with proficiency not only in the use of office productivity tools but with Web technology they can apply  in the real world.  Technology like E-commerce and development of dynamic Web applications will make these possible.  For our delivery system we employ an state of the art Online Learning Management System that makes teaching and learning as efficient and effective as we want it to be.

 

Today is the Internet era and the future of technology is the Internet. Microsoft used to be the leader in computing; now Google and Yahoo! are emerging as the new leaders in the field. And so the curriculum of the Computer Education of Ateneo de Naga University High School is geared in offering students Internet rich technologies. The curriculum supplements the office productivity tools courses with Internet rich technologies so that students while still in high school can apply their new found knowledge and skills in the real world.  

 

 

GOALS: 

After undergoing four years of the Computer Education program, the students are expected to: 

  1. Appreciate the role of ICT in their daily lives.
  2. Gain entrepreneurial consciousness in the area of Web technologies especially E – commerce;
  3. Demonstrate mastery in the use of the office productivity tools;
  4. Develop windows based programs and create static and dynamic Web pages and Web sites that include databases, with commercial and E – commerce application; and
  5. Respect and be aware of the social and ethical issues surrounding ICT.

 

The Ateneo de Naga University Computer Education Department offers the following courses:

 

FIRST YEAR:

WORD PROCESSING, ELECTRONIC PRESENTATION AND ELECTRONIC SPREADSHEET USING OpenOffice™ SUITE 

 

The First Quarter is spent in learning Word Processing using OpenOffice Writer™ and  the Second Quarter in learning electronic presentations using the OpenOffice Impress™.  The Third and Fourth Quarters are devoted to studying electronic spreadsheets using OpenOffice Calc TM.  

 

At the end of the school year, the students should be able to:  

  1. demonstrate skills in using OpenOffice Writer™, OpenOffice Impress™, and  OpenOffice Calc™ to compose documents, create  electronic slideshows or presentations and manipulate electronic spreadsheets;
  2. Use these skills to aid them in doing their school projects, homework and other school related tasks; and
  3. Be aware of the moral issues regarding the software piracy as a crime.

 

 

SECOND YEAR:

ELECTRONIC SPREADSHEET USING OPEN OFFICE CALC™, DATABASE MANAGEMENT USING MICROSOFT ACCESS AND FUNDAMENTALS OF WEB DEVELOPMENT 

 

The First and Second Quarters of the school year are devoted to the study of database management application using MS – Access in preparation for the fundamentals of Web – Design and development which is covered in the second half of school year. At the end of the school year, the students are expected to: 

 

  1. Demonstrate skills in using MS – Access™ to create and manage databases; create static Web pages using the HTML mark up language;
  2. Practice netiquette, show respect for intellectual property and Internet privacy, and fight piracy;
  3. Use these skills to aid them in doing their school projects, homework and other school related tasks.

 

 

THIRD YEAR: FUNDAMENTALS OF WEB - APPLICATION AND FUNDAMENTALS OF E - COMMERCE APPLICATION 

 

The third year students will complete the study of Web design and development by learning to create Web Applications that utilize databases for commercial applications and E – commerce. At the end of the school year, the students are expected to: 

 

  1. Create dynamic Web pages that use scripting languages, utilize databases and E – Commerce capable;
  2. Participate in real world application of these technologies; and
  3. Show appreciation and respect for the E – Commerce law and Internet Security.

 

 

FOURTH YEAR: PROGRAMMING USING MICROSOFT VISUAL BASIC 6.0 

 

In the final year, the students will study the science of computer programming in Windows using MS-Visual Basic 6.0 At the end of the school year, the students are expected to: 

 

  1. Demonstrate their programming skills by creating error free Windows programs;
  2. Create a simple database program using Visual Basic; and
  3. Practice the Software Engineering Code of ethics.
