The academic calendar for years 2012 and 2013 opened in the traditional and ceremonial Mass invoking the Holy Spirit and the presentation of the members of the academic community in the “Schola Brevis” on June 1, 2012 at the High School Covered Courts.

Clad in red symbolic liturgical vestments, Fathers Primitivo Viray Jr. and Ruben Reyes of the Jesuit Community in Naga led the first Eucharistic celebration for the school year. At the liturgy’s initial part, the Jesuit fathers symbolically blessed the community by sprinkling holy water on everyone.

In Fr. Viray’s homily, he emphasized the graduating and changing “treasures” and “values” in life. He posed questions on the significance and value of material things, others persons, friends, principles and God. For the first time, Fr. Viray utilized slide presentations and digital photos as innovations in his homily.

In the liturgy’s second part, Eucharist, symbols of the Ateneo High School as a Jesuit academic institution were offered: books, uniforms, syllabus-lesson plans, PAASCU accreditation certificate, etc.

Before the final blessing, the community then witnessed the oath taking of the newly elected officers of the Student Government Organization (SGO) and the Faculty Club.

Towards the end of the ceremonial opening, the students welcomed with warmth the administration, faculty and staff in the traditional Schola Brevis, Latin for “brief school”. The academic superiors, subject teachers and non-teaching personnel joined in the processional accompanied by the familiar sound track of the movie, “Avengers.”

The members of the school hierarchy gave their brief speeches or welcome remarks and teachers handling various subjects were introduced.
