Pista sa NayonThis month’s celebration of Buwan ng Wika,  with the theme “Tatag ng Wikang Filipino, Lakas ng Pagka-Pilipino”, is ushered in by the “Pista sa Nayon” held August 6, 2012, Monday, at the hallways of the Main Building.

Prior to this, students gathered at the Covered Courts to welcome the visitors from Japan, mostly students, who will be joining the class discussions for a week.  Rush time followed, with the students  preparing the food and decorating the place.

By homeroom and break time, the hallways were transformed into a town-like place during fiestas.  There were native but colorful decorations in each floor of the building.  There was an abundance of native foods on the tables, as well.  Foods like binamban, ibos, fish crackers, taho, kalamay, kutsinta, maja blanca, puto and many more were available for everyone.  Buko juice and other fruit juices were served, too.

The administrators, faculty members, students and guests enjoyed the sumptuous delicacies at the tables.  It had been a gastronomic experience and the “fiesta” spirit is really in the air.

It was  a time to remind us of the true spirit of Fiestas here in the Philippines.  The activity taught the students to appreciate the festive tradition of revelry during feast days of saints even though we are in a modern and technologically-advanced world now.

If we have a strong foundation for the Filipino language, and we practice it, patronize it, and make sure that it will be appreciated and used by the generations to come, then the Filipino culture and the pride of being a Filipino will remain for the whole world to see.
