0Excerpts from famous musicals and other performances were showcased in the culminating activity of the celebration of the English and Reading Week held at the High School Covered Courts on November 27, 2009.

 

Selected seniors performed the sing-and-dance numbers from Andrew Lloyd Webber classics, “Cats” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Freshmen showcased their singing prowess as they sang excerpts from “Les Miserables”. Two junior students performed a violin-and-keyboard duet of an Antonio Vivaldi opus.

 

In the afternoon performances, the awarding to the sponsored contests held within the week-long celebration was held. Winners were announced and awarded. The contests were Elocution, Chamber Theater and Extemporaneous Speaking contests of the English Department; Poster-Making, Slogan-Making, Essay Writing, Photography and Word Jolt of the Library; and Story-telling and Brain Challenge of the Reading Cluster (SRA)

 

The Reading Cluster also recognized the students with the highest color-levels in the reading program, SRA.

 

The culminating activity was capped by band performances of hits from the “Beatles”. Mr. Gregorio Re Abonal gave his closing remarks which gave prodding to appreciate and use the English language.
