| HS faculty, staff fire up summer with tour to Albay |
News and photos by Mr. Meljohn R. Tatel The usual Ateneo de Naga faculty and staff summer rest and recreation had a twist this year as the group toured the neighboring province last April 23, 2010.With the loads of sun block and swim wear (for the overdone basking-under-sun-and wading-in-the-water summer routine) set aside, the Ateneo teachers and non-teaching staff favored the tourist attractions in Albay. First, the group visited the Stations of the Cross scattered around the rim of Kawa-kawa, Tuburan, Ligao City. At an elevation barely reached by some seasoned teachers, the group stopped at every tableau of life-size figures of the Savior and other Biblical characters. From Ligao, the teachers and staff witnessed the production of highly patronized ceramic and clay products of Tiwi. The trip to Tiwi never passed without the stop at the town’s “halo-halo” hub. Then the group spent some time at the recently opened Embarcadero, a commercial-lifestyle strip by the port of Legaspi, before proceeding to the city’s Parks and Wildlife, a sanctuary for Philippine endemic species and other zoo mainstays. The last stop was the Viewing Deck on Lignon Hill. With options of taking a ride or painstakingly ascending on foot to the peak of the natural landmark, the group enjoyed the view of Mayon Volcano and city of Legaspi, Naga’s archrival in the region. ![]() ![]() |
