John Reinier Bulaong, a student from Learning Group 4218 once again reaped laurels for the school as the champion and second placer in the division and regional levels of the 20th Eagle Quiz Bee dubbed “Battle of the Eagles.”
The Eagle Quiz Bee, which in now on its 20th year, was sponsored by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Geothermal, Inc. The contest aims to promote awareness and scientific interest in the fields of environmental management and ecosystem conservation. In line with the celebration of the Environment Month, the questions for the contest centered on these categories: environment, general knowledge and physical sciences. This year's theme has been "Continue the Green Advocacy."
The provincial eliminations of EQC was held last June 22, 2010. John and 23 other high school students from public and private schools in Camarines Sur competed in LCC Mall, Naga City. Bulaong garnered first place in the eliminations being the champion in the whole province.
On June 29, 2010, John and five other contenders went to the Bicol University to outwit each other and be declared the regional champion for the 20th Eagle Quiz Bee. Even if John did not become the regional champion, he will still be one for he won second place, representing the whole Ateneo de Naga community against more than 200 schools that participated the said contest.
