The mission of Ateneo de Naga University High School is to assist the students to grow as a total person and strive for excellence in preparation for college. PEHM serves as a venue in realizing this mission through the development of the skills in sports and music, proper care of his physical and mental being of the students.
GOALS
At the end of the course in PEHM, the students are expected: 1. Develop their skills in note reading, singing, and playing musical instrument such as guitar or piano, 2. Develop the seven components of Physical Education such as organic vigor, endurance, strength, power, flexibility, agility and speed, 3. Develop the common foundation that underlies the acquisition of desirable health behaviors and values, 4. Acquire sufficient skills which make them participate further in school, home, and community sports, music and recreation, 5. Develop broader skills in dealing with emergency cases in school, home, and community, 6. Obtain reliable and scientific information of the role of food, diet and nutrition for better living, and 7. Acquire scientific knowledge and skills for ecological conservation and develop awareness of health hazards in the polluted environment.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Music Education
This course primarily focuses on the development skills in singing, note reading, instrument-playing.
Music 1 deals with the basic concepts of music. Topics include the basic material and properties of music; properties of tone; properties of melody, harmony, tonality, texture, and dynamics; and musical signs and symbols.
Music 2 covers pitch and intervals, rhythm and meter, tonic, scale, melody, triads, chords as well as practical application in keyboard playing, note reading, listening and rhythmic activities. It also includes the study of Philippine music and the music of China, Korea and Japan.
Music 3 covers the study of key signatures, major and minor scales, parallel keys and Forms in music. It also includes the study the music of India, Thailand, Indonesia, Latin America and Africa. Music 4 covers the historical background of European music namely: medieval music, renaissance music, classical music, musical form and style of baroque, romantic, contemporary period, and American music namely: rhythm and blues, jazz, rock and roll, rock, rap, pop and other new musical styles. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the school year, a student is expected to: 1. Develop musical skills through related activities like singing and playing instruments, 2. Use music as medium of facilitating one’s ability to react intelligently and creatively to actual situations, 3. Widen his/her capacities for appreciating the value of musical arts, the other related arts and sciences as rich sources of wholesome enjoyment, 4. Recognize himself/herself, his/her people, and other people of the world by exploring not only the Philippine native world of music, but also the universal world of music, and 5. Make use of music education as tool for improving his ability to demonstrate understanding acquisition and application of basic concepts and methodologies of different branches of human knowledge, hence promote his and others’ intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual well-being.
HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM
This course focuses on the development of personal and physical care.
Health 1 topics include health services and personal health, population education, safety education and first aid and information about drugs. Health 2 topics consist of health analysis and community health, relation of population, resources, and environment to health development, first aid, provision of the comprehensive drugs act of 2002 in relation to the abuse of restricted and controlled drugs, and agencies and organization that help in the prevention, control, and rehabilitation of prohibited drug. Health 3 topics include health analysis and community health, reproductive health, diseases education and drug education.
Health 4 topics comprise sex, marriages, adolescence, planned-parenthood, and family health. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the school year, a student is expected to: 1. Know the foundation of health and physical fitness; 2. Become aware of the different rudiments towards personal care; 3. Apply the knowledge of first aid and accident prevention; 4. Develop awareness of the concept of population education, consumer education, environment and community health, responsible parenthood, family health and drug education. 5. Appreciate the benefits of health and physical fitness;
PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
This course is primarily concerned with all – round physical fitness of the students by taking up the six item physical fitness test and development of basic skills in individual, dual, and team sports. Physical Education 1 to 4 covers the six item test that varies for the different age and sex groups (see attached Physical Fitness Challenge Standards for Male and Female). It also covers the performance of the students in the inter – learning group intramurals games and demonstrations. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the school year, a student is expected to: - Promote the attainment of desirable levels of overall physical fitness among students, - Develop the basic skills in sports like, Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Kick- Baseball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Darts, Dama, Chess and Scrabble, - Appreciate the sports mentioned above, - Apply the skills acquired from the various sports mentioned, and - Develop and apply the basic skills in sports officiating acquired from the various sports mentioned.
PE events include Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer Football, Badminton, Chess, Scrabble, Sports Officiating and Basic Military Drills |
