13th PISTAYM once again proved that life-shaping moments and even character-defining destiny become more prominent in certain events like this. PISTAYM is a week-long affair of academic, cultural, and sport rivalries among teachers and students. It was concluded last February 17, 2012 with Group 8 emerging as Overall Champion.
While weather had been reluctant enough to be amicable, 13th PISTAYM still brought inevitably with it the eagerness and fervent desire of students to vie for various competitions. Possessed with different skills and boundless talents, students were divided into eight groups and contended in 36 events. Trainings and preparations started as early as August with their corresponding teacher-mentor coordinators assigned for each group.
Academic competitions include: Academic Quiz, Current Events, Essay Writing–English, Essay Writing–Filipino, Scrabble, Spelling, and Word Power; Sport events, on the other hand, were: 3-Point Shootout, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Dama, Darts, Dodgeball, Endurun, Free Throw Shootout, Kick Baseball–Girls, Soccer, Table Tennis, Three-On-Three–Girls, Tug-of-War, and Volleyball–Girls; Finally, Cultural: Bikol Storyang Suanoy, Cheer and Dance, Digital Illustration, Digital Photography, Dramatic Excerpts, English Elocution, Instrumental Solo, Instrumental Trio, Modern Dance, Poster Making, Talumpatian, T-Shirt Painting, Vocal Duet, Vocal Solo.
In the conclusion of the week-long festival, awe-inspired and startled Ateneans were in extreme fidgety with their stentorian shouts and applauses during the announcement of winners, especially that of Cheer and Dance Competition and Overall Champion.
This year’s PISTAYM, coined from “Peace Time” in the pre-and-post World War II period, is the 13th edition since it was initiated in the early 80’s. In its successful 13th year, PISTAYM establishes itself to be one of the many reasons why Ateneans can fervidly say: It’s more fun in the Ateneo!
